The annual Barossa Wine Show, first held in 1977, is seen as a showpiece of the region’s very best wines in any given year. Hundreds of wines are entered in over 25 different classes and judged over three days, with Trophies and Awards presented at a gala dinner.
The Barossa Wine Show is held in September each year. Entry is open to members of the Barossa Grape & Wine Association and wines must be made in Barossa from a minimum of 85% Barossa grapes. The judging panel includes winemakers, wine media and professional judges from around Australia and overseas.
The results, due to a combination of the integrity of the system coupled with the talent of the judges, are an extremely good indicator of which producers are performing well. Whilst being a judge on the main judging panel is invite only, there is one guest associate position open to wine enthusiasts, who can bid on the position through the annual wine show award dinner auction. Bidding is fierce for this opportunity, with past successful bidders coming from overseas and interstate.
